SDG Architects was founded in 1993 on a simple but enduring conviction: that great design should be both inspired and purposeful. Ralph Strauss established the firm as a full-service architecture and planning practice, guided by a belief that the built environment should respond meaningfully to the people and communities it serves.
As the firm grew, Ralph was joined by Jon Strauss, whose financial leadership and business acumen helped transform SDG from a promising practice into a resilient, well-structured firm. Their partnership, rooted in shared values and complementary strengths, gave SDG a foundation few firms enjoy.
Today, SDG is a multidisciplinary practice serving clients across California and the Western United States. More than thirty years on, our approach remains the same: collaborative, technically rigorous, and always grounded in what the client and community actually need.
